In discussing the outcome of the elections and trying to explain the voting patterns, Dr Julius Kizza, a lecturer of Political Science at Makerere University, says the patterns appear to have been informed by the level of political awareness. “Rural voters who are predominantly poverty-stricken peasants voted for a presidential monarchy. By contrast, the urban-based voters, who are more politically conscious, predominantly voted the Opposition. They voted for change,” Dr Kizza argues. ....

Mr Museveni, who has tweaked his name to add Tibuhaburwa during campaigns, laid out what he claimed was a vision he has for not only East Africa but Africa at large. “NRM came to deal with historical problems of Uganda and Africa.
