Want a step up from Instagram scrolling? Well, the World Photography Organisation has announced the grand winners of the Sony World Photography Awards 2021, and the images will certainly soothe tired eyes.
The overall awards winner has been named as British documentary photographer Craig Easton. His series Bank Top – collaborated on with writer and academic Abdul Aziz Hafiz – considers the representation and misrepresentation of communities in northern England , particularly the Bank Top neighbourhood in Blackburn.

Craig Easton’s winning Bank Top series, which challenges the representation and misrepresentation of communities in northern England
Craig Easton has also been awarded in the Portraiture category for his series Bank Top – which he created in partnership with writer Abdul Aziz Hafiz. The black and white images concentrate on the Bank Top neighbourhood in Blackburn, as a way of exploring the representation of communities in the north of England. The imagery was born from an initiative by Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery, set up to challenge reports of the town as the most segregated in the UK. Easton and Hafiz spent a year on the project, working closely with locals to create texts to accompany the portraits. ....

The winners in the prestigious Sony World Photography Awards 2021 revealed – TodayHeadline


The winning photographers in the 2021 Sony World Photography Awards have been revealed – and the images in this year’s winners’ gallery are as fascinating as ever.
The contest runs four competitions – professional, open, student and youth. This year, it received 330,000 entries from photographers across the globe.
The winner of the professional competition, scooping the title of Photographer of the Year 2021 and the $25,000 (£18,201) grand prize, is Scottish snapper Craig Easton for his series of portraits that examine ‘misrepresentation of communities in northern England’ and focus on the tight-knit neighbourhood of Bank Top in Blackburn.
Mike Trow, chair of the 2021 professional competition, said: ‘What is so impressive about this project is the intent, dedication and understanding Craig brings to it.
