27-year-old Cody Plumlee is charged with the murder of Kirsten Knaus.
Court documents say he pushed her down the stairs after she struck him in the head with a frying pan during an argument over car keys.
She was hospitalized with serious injuries and died in late December.
Plumlee told investigators that meth use had strained their relationship.

Cody Raymond Plumlee, 28, entered the not guilty pleas to multiple charges, including a Class AA felony of murder, in Cass County District Court. Prosecutors alleged he broke into an apartment at 702 26th St. N. on Dec. 7 and shoved his girlfriend Kirsten Knaus. She fell down the stairs, resulting in injuries that knocked her unconscious, according to court documents.
After being put on life-support, she died in December, according to court documents. The murder charge was added to Plumlee s case last week.
Plumlee told police he thought Knaus had the keys to his apartment, but he said he realized he had the keys after kicking in the door, court documents alleged. ....
