Jet in that part of the aviation world? it s a rather sparsely populated wide open area. there s not a lot of air traffic there, i don t think and it would seem to me that would be an unusual descent. how would you describe it? it is very unusual for something to happen at cruising altitude. most accidents happen upon landing or takeoff, so a cabin depressurization or a controlled descent of some kind perhaps cockpit intrusion. in eight or nine minutes, there was no radio communication. it looks like from the deebris field this may have gone in an attack condition. it had one heck of an impact. that s right. mr. cox, your thoughts on what the pilot s might have been going through? i just want to offer one possibility. this is a 1990 aircraft. ....

Added to the theory that the pilots might have done this on purpose or that it was premeditated. now you have word at least from the malaysians that that is not the case. there was nothing from the plane to indicate that that turn was preprogrammed. how important a development do you think that is and for you does it undermine the theory the pilots were somehow intentionally involved? well, i mean, i never thought the pilots were intentionally involved. we were pondering this 12-minute gap. what happened was because this was thought to have been programmed in by the pilots, and the last communication was 12 minutes after they thought this was programmed in, no one could understand why the pilots were having a mayday or having a cockpit intrusion or if it was a hijacking or if they were on fire or rapid decompression, why they didn t issue a mayday or inform somebody or turn around. now if this wasn t preprogrammed in, there is no mystery. ....

Re-established. we spoke to air traffic control telling them where we were, what the problem had been, and we were going to resume our flight path. we probably didn t speak to air traffic control. we spoke on the pilot s emergency frequency. it works much better than air traffic control. it s amazing the story you ve just told us. it s a gripping and heroing tale. given the experience and what you know and all vast things we don t know about this missing flight. what s your gut tell you about what maybe went wrong here? well, my very first impression because i m oriented to think that way is that there was a cockpit intrusion. as to what happened after that is mere speculation. enough people have speculated already without me adding to it. ....

So we don t know whether this was a cockpit intrusion that forced the pilots to do something. we don t know whether this was the one pilot or the other instigating this event. we may never know. i want your thoughts on the length of oh flight. we know that aircraft took off with so many pounds of fuel. it should be an easy calculation how far it could fly. if it goes down to a low altitude it will burn more fuel but has a long way to go to reach a destination and get below radar. what do you think? yeah. the idea of what i loosely term the joyride is the most perplexing part of this. when we talk about hijacking or pilot suicide. the only thing i can think of if it were a pilot suicide type of event would be he wanted to burn ....

Flight from rolondon to nairobi. there were three pilots involved, so we shared the rest periods. i took the final rest period, which was i went into the bunk which is an integral part of the cockpit. they were separated by a door. i went in there just about reaching air space over malta. the aircraft then headed down over the libyan coastline, then through eastern libya and into the north sudan. and it was at that position, in that area, where the cockpit intrusion took place. a chap entered the cockpit. i closed the door behind him, and he then proceeded into the cockpit. my seat was not occupied at the ....
