Cats were killed. The homeowner said her dog woke her up before 1 45 this morning in south san jose. She smelled smoke, called 911 and trapped inside the home. Firefighters had to pull her out to safety. 94 or 95 cats inside were killed. The homeowner said she is part of an Animal Rescue Group Contracted with Stanford University to spay the cats on campus, a no Kill Organization so she takes care of the cats she says would not survive being released in the wild. Animal control said if they heard of a home with this many cats they would visit to check on the health of the animal and the homeowner. There is an investigation over the cause of the fire.
