Mary Marshall, nee Hasmall, grew up in Great Lever and after a colourful career retired to Guernsey. She died on January 14 and a funeral is being held for her in Guernsey on January 28. A soprano, it was clear Mary had a talent for singing, performing in school concerts from the age of five. Later she would go on to perform in various operatic productions and was signed with Columbia records in the 1950s. TV and radio work with the BBC followed and she also toured Europe. Although she later moved to the Channel Islands, retiring from her singing career in 1979, she maintained a fondness for Bolton and would regularly visit with daughters Cindy and Hayley.
