Prosecutors have filed criminal recklessness charges against a 26-year-old man accused of firing a gun downtown last week and striking a man visiting for his son’s youth basketball tournament.
Carnell Williams has been in custody since Sunday, after Indianapolis police said witnesses identified him as the man who fired multiple shots on East Georgia Street at 3:30 a.m.
Police said nearby officers heard the gunfire and ran to the area, where they found a man, James Meyer, shot. Meyer told investigators at the hospital that he was visiting Indianapolis for his son’s AAU tournament and went to Coaches Tavern for drinks that night. While he and another parent returned to where they were staying, Meyer “heard one shot, a pause, then three more shots,” before he fell to the ground.
