Following a sensational senior campaign, Allison Van Gorp finished her basketball career among the all-time greats on Eagle Lane.
Van Gorp earned 2nd team All-State honors from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association and 3rd team recognition from the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association, following a campaign in which she topped 1,000 career points. Allison is one of just three Eagles girls to eclipse the mark in the five-on-five era.
Head Coach Brad Engbers says Van Gorp racked up an impressive career despite being the focal point for opposing defenses in the imposing Little Hawkeye Conference.
Van Gorp will continue playing basketball at Central College next winter, but before trading in the maroon and gold for red and white, she will look to make a return trip to the famous Blue Oval in Des Moines as one of the top throwers in Class 2A track and field. Van Gorp qualified for both the discus and shot put for Pella Christian in 2019, and also earned a spot at the Drake Relays.
The Pella Christian girls and boys basketball teams are hitting the home stretch of the regular season, entering the final week before the playoffs begin on Eagle Lane.
The Eagles will host Oskaloosa for a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader, hoping to replicate their efforts from a January 12th meetup where they found the sweep at Oskaloosa High School. Pella Christian’s girls are coming off of a valiant effort against Van Meter Saturday, down three opening-day starters and hanging tough with the Bulldogs in a 42-32 loss, while the Eagles boys pulled off an 11-point comeback to win in overtime.
