Atuesta, Smith score in LAFC's 1-1 draw with Sounders | The China Post, Taiwan


LOS ANGELES (AP) — Eduard Atuesta scored the fastest goal in Los Angeles FC history in the second minute, and Brad Smith headed home his first MLS goal early in the second half for the Seattle Sounders in the Western Conference powers’ 1-1 draw Saturday.
LAFC earned four points in its two season-opening home games with no contributions from its two best players, Carlos Vela and Diego Rossi. Coach Bob Bradley was heartened by the draw against the team that has knocked LAFC out of the playoffs in each of the past two seasons.
“I liked our mentality,” Bradley said. “I felt that the concentration to really stay in the game against a good team was at a high level. I thought we had opportunities in the second half had we been able to be a little sharper with the final pass, or sometimes our crossing. Just little things around the box where we weren’t good enough or sharp enough.” ....

No love lost between Seattle Sounders, LAFC ahead of Week 2 showdown in Los Angeles


There will be no love lost when the Seattle Sounders head to Los Angeles to take on LAFC on Saturday (3 p.m. PT; ESPN, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM) at Banc of California Stadium. Head Coach Brian Schmetzer and the Sounders have knocked the Black and Gold out of the postseason in each of the last two seasons, and it’s created a bit of acrimony between the two sides.
“Whenever you face a team in the playoffs a lot, it naturally turns it up a little bit,” said Sounders forward Will Bruin. “That’s been the case with LAFC and us. It’s always a battle against them. Tigres UANL and LAFC advanced to the final of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League after tonight’s semifinals at Exploria Stadium. Tigres ousted CD Olimpia 3-0 in the early match and Club América was sent packing in the nightcap as LAFC came from a goal down while down to 10 men to win the chippiest match here so far, 3-1.

Tigres out of Mexico’s Liga MX took on Honduran side CD Olimpia in the first semifinal. Tigres entered fresh off destroying New York City FC in the quarterfinals, while Olimpia lost the second-leg match to the Montreal Impact, 1-0, but won on the away goals tiebreaker after the two legs ended in a 2-2 aggregate score line. ....

Club América out of Mexico and Major League Soccer’s LAFC advanced to Saturday’s semifinals on the second night of Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals at Exploria Stadium after dispatching Atlanta United and Cruz Azul, respectively.
Atlanta United looked to erase a 3-0 aggregate score line in the opening match against Liga MX side Club América, while LAFC and Mexican side Cruz Azul met in a single-leg quarterfinal match in the nightcap.
The Five Stripes could only eke out a 1-0 win in the early match to fall 3-1 on aggregate. LAFC then came from behind to beat Cruz Azul 2-1 in the nightcap to keep MLS hopes alive in the competition. ....
