Boeing calls for grounding of some 777 planes

Boeing Co on Sunday called for the grounding of 128 of its 777 planes around the world as US regulators investigated a United Airlines Holdings Inc flight whose engine caught fire and fell apart over a suburban city.
United and Japan’s two main airlines confirmed they had already suspended operations of 56 planes fitted with the same engine that fell apart mid-flight over Colorado on Saturday.
The US National Transportation and Safety Board (NTSB) is also investigating the incident, in which no one was hurt.
Boeing said similarly fitted planes should be taken out of service until the US Federal Aviation Authority ....

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Boeing Co on Tuesday backed first-ever fuel efficiency standards for new airplanes finalized by the Trump administration in its waning days that a dozen U.S. states have challenged as too lenient, and that President Joe Biden’s administration is reviewing.

The largest U.S. planemaker asked a U.S. appeals court in Washington for approval to intervene on behalf of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which is being sued over its decision to finalize the first-ever standards regulating greenhouse gas emissions from airplanes. The plaintiffs, 12 states, the District of Columbia and three environmental groups, want tougher emissions rules. ....

On Wednesday at Clonmel Circuit Criminal Court, Judge Garavan said that he believed a sentence of seven months was appropriate.
 
A 42-year-old man has been jailed for seven months after he admitted sexually exploiting a 14-year-old girl with special needs when he persuaded her to send him intimate photographs of herself after engaging with her online.
Michael O’Regan of Assumption Place, Clonakilty, Co Cork, pleaded guilty at Clonmel Circuit Criminal Court to the exploitation of the child on a date between December 25th, 2016 and April 25th, 2017, contrary to Section 3 of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act 1998. ....
