surveys with a team of people. the military has also moved in with search and rescue vehicles. in the south side of town in my live stream you can see there s four to five homes farms that had heavy damage and are gone. the tornado here was about 200 yards wide and it tracked through the city on the southeast side. everybody has been accounted for. most people are we do not have any injuries, just a couple injuries, no fatalities but marked damage on the south side of town. you re talking to us at the same time you re live streaming these images for us and in these images we are seeing people walking around. are these residents that are surveying the damage or are these first responders who are there to help, volunteers? reporter: both. we have a lot of local people here that are people walking down the streets that are local residents and family members. a lot of these people s farms have been here for a while, many generations. one family here on the south sid ....

captions by vitac www.vitac.com tonight we re tracking a danger ouz tornado outbreak. powerful twisters across ohio, tennessee, mississippi, alabama and indiana where four deaths have now been confirmed. in kentucky a yellow school bus slammed into a building. its front half obliterated. in tennessee, homes are ripped from their foundation, splintered by the winds. at least six people critically hurt in that state. in alabama a trailer home lifted up and crashed upside down near a tree. the naked lot and a few stairs all that s left. and here s a power line crumpled like a paper clip. millions are affected and this is far far from over. we re keeping an eye on it all with the help of our cnn meteorologist chad myers in the severe weather center. chad, what are you watching right now? john, i m watching 11 literally 11 states with a tornado watch in effect. i m watching 21 tornado warnings. watch a short word, not quite as important, warning the bigger word. mo ....

we re following the breaking news this hour, a tornado outbreak that scraped parts of the midwest this morning, killing at least nine people and injuring more than 100. hardest hit, harrisburg, illinois, where at least six people died, including two children. within the last half hour, we learned the tornado was a category ef-4, with winds, get this, up to 170 miles an hour, and as wide as two football fields. in the last hour, the mayor spoke at a grief-stricken news conference. we have suffered the loss of lives. we ve suffered many injures, and millions of dollars worth of is it damage, but first and foremost the loss of lives breaks my heart today. in neighboring missouri, the governor puts the damage in the tens of millions. there s also damage in kansas and kentucky, where the national guard has been called out. let s get the latest, chad myers is watching what s going on. the heartbreaking to see it, not a whole lot of warning. what s going on now? i think ....

more funerals in syria today. opposition activists say that 31 people died when syrian troops opened fire on sunday. the attacks on anti-american rather anti-government protesters took place in several cities. president assad is warning countries not to recognize the syrian national council, which is set up in turkey last week. that council appears to be positioning itself as syria s next government. crisis talks are happening in egypt today to head off new violence. fighting between muslims and christians left at least 25 people dead over the weekend. christians say they were peacefully protesting a church burning when they were attacked by people they describe as thugs. christians say egypt s military rulers aren t doing enough to protect them. it s a very volatile situation, and many critics say it s not helped by the actions, for instance, of state-run tv which last night called upon what it called honest egyptians to come down and join the army in fighting ag ....
