HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) A Texas inmate was executed Wednesday evening for an attack that killed his pregnant wife, 5-year-old daughter and father-in-law more than a decade ago.
John Hummel received a lethal injection at the state penitentiary in Huntsville for the December 2009 killings.
Authorities say Hummel stabbed his wife, Joy Hummel, more than 30 times, then used a baseball bat to beat to death his daughter, Jodi Hummel, and his 57-year-old father-in-law, Clyde Bedford, who used a wheelchair. He then set their home on fire in Kennedale, a Fort Worth suburb.

Hummel, 45, who had been working as a hospital security guard, was convicted of capital murder in the deaths of his father-in-law and his 34-year-old wife.
Michael Mowla, Hummel s attorney, does not plan to file any last-minute appeals, saying all available legal avenues have been exhausted.
Appeals courts had rejected Mr Mowla s attempts to stop the execution over claims Hummel had not been properly assessed on whether he would be a future danger, which is one of the questions Texas juries must answer in death penalty cases.

HUNTSVILLE â A Texas inmate was executed Wednesday at the Huntsville âWallsâ Unit after killing his pregnant wife, 5-year-old daughter and father-in-law more than a decade ago in what prosecutors called a brutal and senseless attack.
John Hummell, 45, received a lethal dose of pentobarbital for the December 2009 fatal stabbing of his pregnant wife, Joy Hummel, 45, and fatal bludgeoning of his father-in-law, Clyde Bedford, 57, with a baseball bat.
Court records say that Hummel also used the bat to beat to death Jodi Hummel, his 5-year-old daughter, before he torched their home in Kennedale, a suburb of Fort Worth. However, he was only convicted of capital murder in the deaths of his wife and father-in-law.
