Coast paddlers primed for national event

At least two dozen dragon boat clubs and hundreds of paddlers from across the state, including Cairns and Townsville, competed at the event with more than 100 races held over the course of two days.
The Coast club earned their top status following a string of strong results, including being named the fastest women’s, mixed, and open (or men’s) crews in the championships.
The club’s premier mixed crew also picked up the fastest combined times in the 500m and 2km races in a standard, or 20-person, dragon boat.
Overall, the club won a total of 12 medals at the championships, including 10 gold, one silver, and one bronze across the premier and 40-plus age divisions. ....
