FLOOD UPDATE: Roads to the west of the city expected to remain closed as the River Lee slowly recedes The Council say the Lee will be very slow to recede, and may take a number of days or longer Cork City Council has continued to monitor river levels overnight and while the weather warnings have now expired there is still a lot of surface water and flooding in low lying areas This water is expected to take a number of day to wash through the river systems. Many of the smaller rivers are beginning to recede and road conditions in these areas will improve throughout the day, however some of the larger rivers, including the Lee, Shournagh and Bride will continue to experience very high river levels for a number of hours to come. ....

Council officials in Cork city and county are this morning waiting for flood waters to recede before they begin an assessment of the damage done to the road network after almost 36 hours of torrential rain led to flooding in many areas. Met Éireann had issued an Orange Rainfall Warning for Cork with forecasts of 80 mm of rain over a 48-hour period from Monday into Wednesday. At 8am today Met Éireann’s Meteorological Station at Cork Airport was reporting 55mm of rain since 8pm on Monday. ....

Areas all over the county have been hit as rivers burst their banks following the Orange warning. One place with a lot of severe delays is Mallow, where the N72 Park Road is still closed due to floods. Cork city has also been hit - the N22 Carrigrohane Road is closed along with Lee Road, Cloghroe Road, and Inniscarra Road.
