North Ayrshire planning chiefs given green mark


Planning chiefs were given top marks for working timescales well below the Scottish average after a controversial decision to refuse a discount supermarket in Irvine.
The Planning performance Framework Feedback from the Scottish Government shows the council’s planning team processed major applications in an average of 13.1 weeks over the past year – significantly faster than the Scottish average of 33.5.
Non-householder applications were progressed in an average of 5.4 weeks, which was an improvement on the previous year and again faster than the Scottish average of 10.9 weeks.
For regular householder planning applications, the average time taken was 4.3 weeks – the same as the previous year – and quicker than the Scottish average of 7.3 weeks. ....

Irvine Lidl store plan appeal refused by councillors


An appeal to build a new LIDL store in Irvine has been thown out by councillors after plans were previously refused.
The appeal was heard by the council s Local Review Body [Friday, January 8] after the decision was delayed again last year.
Planning officers previously refused the decision due to  the location not taking a town centre-first approach as stated in NAC s Local Development Plan, while Lidl bosses say no suitable or available sites within the catchment area can accommodate the plans.
Planning officers said the discount giant had shown no will to deliver site other than proposed Stancastle one and asking that councillors refuse the appeal.  ....
