Inquest to open into death of 14-year-old boy at Goit Stock Waterfall

AN inquest into the death of a Bradford teenager who died at a beauty spot in Bingley is to open this week. 
Mohammad Abu Farhan, 14, of Barkerend Road, is thought to have drowned at Goit Stock Waterfall near Cullingworth on March 30.
There was a huge emergency response, with police, the mountain rescue team, ambulance service and fire engines all scrambled to the scene after the teenager entered the water and got into difficulty.
A GoFundMe page was set up in his memory and has so far raised more than £3,600, which will be used to provide food and shelter for orphans in Bangladesh. ....

Calls for new safety measures at Cullingworth beauty spot after death of boy, 14


The 14-year-old boy died in an incident at Goit Stock waterfall, near Cullingworth, on Tuesday.
Emergency services were alerted following reports of someone in the water.
Police, a mountain rescue crew, ambulances and fire engines – plus the air ambulance – all attended.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police were called just after 6pm to reports of a concern for safety at Goit Stock waterfall off Hallas Lane, Cullingworth.
“A 14-year-old male had entered the water.
“Emergency services attended and recovered a body from the water.
“There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances and a file has been prepared for the coroner.” ....

Top Cheshire West councillors clash over budget feasibility


Rishi Sunak unveiled his spending plans and post-Covid recovery blueprint for the UK on Wednesday (March 3).
Now, Labour cabinet member for finance, Cllr Carol Gahan, and Conservative shadow finance cabinet member Cllr Neil Sullivan have clashed over how feasible the plans are.
Cllr Gahan told the Local Democracy Reporting Service: “I am pleased they are seeking to support more self-employed people and continue the grants because I believe that we need that but we also need a stimulus and not enough is on that support for businesses. I think there are some gaps that need to be addressed.
“The tax allowance freeze I think is bearable only in the short term because it does need to move with inflation because it is [hard] on the lowest earnings. ....

Councillors vented their frustrations over continued delays at Gorey Town Park during last week s meeting of Gorey-Kilmuckridge Municipal District.
Sean Meyler from Special Projects gave an update on the town park and said that when work shut down due to level five restrictions, the contractor was two months away from substantial completion.
He said that he didn t know what impact the current lockdown was going to have on the efficiencies of the construction sector, but that when the contractor started back on site in May of last year, it took them a couple of weeks to find their feet again because of issues of supply and subcontractor availability. He also said that he suspects they will return to the site on Monday, March 8, but that unfortunately the bulb planting season has now been missed. ....
