Frank Rothwell, who at 70 became the oldest challenger to complete an unassisted 3,000-mile fundraising sea journey, has been awarded a Paul Harris Fellow by Oldham Metro Rotary Club.
The award recognises a person whose life demonstrates a shared purpose with the objectives and mission of Rotary: service above self .
And it underpins the resolve to help build world understanding and peace and to promote and help with projects that help others. ....

Two generous-spirited Rotary Clubs have received special certificates of appreciation from the Mayor of Oldham in recognition of their outstanding community support and charity work .
The certificates were presented by post to Garvin Crabtree, president of Oldham Metro and Robert Knotts, president of Saddleworth Rotary, by Cllr Ginny Alexander.
In her citation to the two clubs, the Mayor said: “I have been overwhelmed by your hard work and dedication during COVID-19 offering your support for local charitable organizations, and in particular organising the shoe donations in support of the homeless.
“Your kindness is felt community-wide and is very much appreciated.” ....

The Mayor of Oldham, Cllr Ginny Alexander, made special reference to townsfolk who have faced tragedy in her Christmas message.
“This year has been a very traumatic time for many of us here in Oldham, and my heart goes out to all those who have lost loved ones,” she said.
‘I would like to mention our elderly people, who are in care homes that have been isolated, and who are unable to have visits from their loved ones since March.
This is truly heartbreaking.
“I would also like to give a thought to our children who have struggled with their education, as they have not been able to be with to their extended families and friends. ....

Oldham News | Main News | It's been a hectic few days for the dedicated Oldham Mountain Rescue Team

Sixteen members of the Oldham Mountain Rescue Team were involved in saving a female on Crompton Moor on Saturday.
The team received a request for assistance from the North West Ambulance Service who were responding to reports the woman had slipped and injured her ankle while out walking.
The Team and NWAS paramedics arrived at the same time, jointly administering medical aid and warming the casualty in OMRT’s special big, fluffy winter casualty bag.
She was then packaged on the team’s stretcher and carried the small distance to their Land Rover, using a simple rope system for back up on the steep slope. ....
