Controversial Yelland power station redevelopment deferred

Controversial plans for the major redevelopment of the former Yelland power station on the North Devon waterfront have been deferred for further negotiations with developers over the proposed scheme.
There had been more than 800 objections to the proposals – with only two letters of support – but planners had recommended that the scheme for Yelland Quay be approved when North Devon Council’s planning committee discussed the proposals on Wednesday morning.
The scheme includes 250 new homes, employment land, retail space, cafes and restaurants, indoor sports provision, public halls, with a unique community centre building to be found almost floating at the heart of this mini development. ....

Last weekend, when the sun was shining, Parkgate s beauty held its usual attraction for visitors. But we re in a national lockdown.
Following reports of large numbers of visitors to Parkgate last weekend, Cheshire West and Chester Council were quick to respond, speaking with local businesses to ensure they are acting within guidelines and taking action to deter visitors from outside the area.
On Friday, Councillor Martin Barker, council ward member for Parkgate, was interviewed on both BBC Radio Merseyside and BBC North West Tonight. He says: The message is simple. If you do not live in the area, please do not visit unless you have a reason within the current regulations to do so. ....

Dunmow area families in need received food hampers

Volunteers helped to pack 170 food hampers in Foakes Hall, which were delivered to help families in need.
Great Dunmow town councillors Danielle Frost and Amanda Brown had originally offered to support a children s activity programme by providing packed lunches, but this scheme was cancelled because rising Covid numbers raised restrictions.
Instead, Essex County Council offered grants to town and parish councils to help families that would normally receive free school meals or other support.
Essex county councillor Susan Barker helped with £500 towards the project, and was among the volunteers who helped to make up hampers. ....
