Clinton Township to extend state of emergency amidst COVID-19 increases

CLINTON TOWNSHIP An “alarming, recent, sharp increase” in local and statewide COVID-19 cases has led Clinton Township Supervisor Bob Cannon to issue a state of emergency declaration.
Cannon planned to invoke the seven-day declaration April 6, after press time, after consulting with the township’s emergency management coordinator.
He has that jurisdiction under Section 10 of the Emergency Management Act, Section 3a(1)(b), and Section 3(2) of the Open Meetings Act the latter which states that procedures can accommodate “the absence of any member of the public body due to military duty, a medical condition, or a statewide or local state of emergency or state of disaster declared pursuant to law or charter or local ordinance by the governor or a local official, governing body, or chief administrative officer that would risk the personal health or safety of members of the publ
