In the 27th week of Copeland Council’s fabulous campaign, we shift focus to the former industrial town, and shine a light on what really makes it great. Cleator Moor saw its population – and popularity – grow rapidly in the 19th century, from just 600 residents in the 1830s to 10,000 in 1865, according to the proud chairwoman of Cleator Moor Town Council, Joan Hully. Joan has spent most of her life on “The Moor” and has a vast knowledge of its history. “I was born and bred here, and I love it,” she said. ....

Copeland Borough Council and a number of partners hope to secure nearly £25m to revitalise Cleator Moor and Cleator through a number of ambitious projects, including developing an enterprise campus on the Leconfield Industrial Estate, and increasing the University of Central Lancashire s presence in Cleator Moor with new student accommodation, teaching and health facilities. It is also hoped to secure nearly £25m to “revitalise and better connect” Millom and Haverigg, investing the vast sum into a number of projects. ....
£50 million bid to secure futures of Cleator Moor and Millom Roger Morris-Eyton and Kayleigh Danels A bid for up to £50 million to invest into the future of two West Cumbrian communities has been unveiled. Cleator Moor and Millom’s town boards have finalised their applications for the Governmentâs Towns Fund. If successful, it is hoped that up to £25 million of investment from the Government will be pumped into each town. Copeland Council was invited to bid for funding on behalf of Cleator Moor (incorporating Cleator) and Millom (incorporating Haverigg) in January last year. Town boards were created, made up of community representatives, which have been working in with the council to produce town investment plans. ....
A PASSION for her home town has earned a Cleator Moor artist top spot in a community competition. Sian Price has won the digital category – and best entry overall – in Cleator Moor Town Board’s ‘Past, Present and Future’ creative contest. Residents were invited to submit a photo, video or piece of artwork that showcased their pride in Cleator Moor, and Sian’s striking creation was chosen by the judges. Dave Fox, was selected as a winner in the photographic category, and both Sian and Dave, from Cleator Moor, will receive a prize of a family pass to The Beacon Museum in Whitehaven. Their work will also feature in the Town Board’s bid for Government funding for the town. ....
