Rivers of Steel discovers the namesake of the Carrie Blast Furnaces

On today’s episode of The Confluence:Norfolk Southern has hired a company to conduct testing of air in residents’ homes near the derailment of the company’s train in East Palestine, Ohio. A ProPublica investigation finds the testing may not be capturing the whole picture of the health and environmental impact from the derailment. White supremacist leader pleads guilty in racketeering case

LITTLE ROCK – A Russellville man pleaded guilty Wednesday to his involvement in a racketeering and narcotics conspiracy based on his role as president of a white supremacist organization. Wesley Gullett, 31, was president of New Aryan Empire (NAE), a white supremacist group founded by inmates in the Arkansas Department of Corrections. Gullett entered a guilty plea today before United States District Judge Brian S. Miller.
Prosecutors alleged that from 2014 to 2016, Gullett and NAE associate Marcus Millsap repeatedly offered money to other NAE associates to kill Bruce Wayne Hurley, an individual who had purchased methamphetamine from Millsap. According to the charging document, NAE members believed Hurley had provided information about Millsap to law enforcement, and NAE members allegedly carried out other retaliatory acts against those who they believed had provided informat ....

'When the Bough Breaks' exhibit at HUB Galleries allows a glimpse into the lives of trees | Lifestyle | Daily Collegian


Visitors to Art Alley in the HUB-Robeson Center at Penn State might gain a new perspective on nature through the works of its latest exhibit, “When the Bough Breaks.”
According to curator Susanne Slavick, the exhibit, which opened in the HUB on Jan. 17, features pieces by eight artists.
As a whole, Slavick said the works speak to humanity’s relationship with nature and trees.
“I want it to be a motivating experience to do something about what is observed or deduced from seeing the works,” Slavick said.
Slavick has a piece featured in the exhibit.
Alex Lukas, an assistant professor of art at University of California, Santa Barbara, contributed to the exhibit. To Lukas, the exhibit serves as a mechanism to allow trees to be the center of attention in a story. ....
