Recently, City Council decided to repeal COVID-19 regulations put in place originally last year that have changed over time to protect our community. This follows a series of courageous and difficult actions as part of the community’s response to COVID-19. It has been 432 days since we saw our community’s first case of the virus. The ordinances and associated mitigation strategies put in place over the course of those challenging days to protect our citizens have served an important purpose and, as a result, have saved numerous lives. We took the correct actions at the right times and stood firm. Our community is better because of it. ....

5 things to know about CoxHealth's COVID-19 vaccine distribution

It’s unclear how many people are in each category
According to Cox’s patient statistics, there could be as many as 150,000 people in the 65 and over category in their coverage area and 45,000 in the under 65 with high-risk health condition, Casad said.
There are some big caveats to those estimates, though.
While Cox has opted to go down a list based on risk, other providers across the state and in southwest Missouri haven’t been as deliberate, opening it up to the entire group of people.
That means some of the folks in Cox’s identified tiers may have already received a vaccine elsewhere, reducing the number of people who will be immunized. ....

'Essential workers' will have to wait for MO COVID-19 vaccine

Greene County health officials are warning the public that a promise to make essential workers like teachers, childcare providers and food production workers eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine next month likely won t mean that one is immediately available.
On Friday, outgoing Greene County public health director Clay Goddard said ongoing vaccine supply shortages mean health providers are still working to immunize many of the people already eligible, such as those 65 or older or those with chronic health conditions that put them at higher risk of getting very sick.
That means local providers will be giving vaccine to those already in line before they go to the next group. ....

Outgoing Health Department Director Speaks Out Against Politicization Of The Pandemic

As outgoing Springfield-Greene County Health Department director, Clay Goddard, spoke Friday at a mass vaccination clinic in Springfield, he said it felt like he’d come full circle, because this is what healing looks like.
He said numbers are moving in the right direction.  COVID-19 case numbers and hospital admittance numbers are declining and more and more people are getting vaccines.
Last week there was only one case of COVID-19 in a long-term care facility resident.  That compares to 132 in the first week of January, according to Goddard.
During his last press briefing before retiring from the health department to work for the Missouri Foundation for Health, Goddard praised the collaboration between the health department and city and county leaders in fighting COVID-19.  But he criticized those who he said politicized the pandemic. ....
