A veteran Laredo firefighter has died due to complications of COVID-19, marking the Laredo Fire Department’s first loss since the pandemic began, according to first responders.
“It is with great sadness that the Laredo Fire Department confirms the passing of a fellow firefighter. Laredo Fire Capt. Erik Segura, 45, has unfortunately succumbed due to complications after contracting COVID-19,” the department said in a statement.
Segura had been hospitalized and receiving treatment in San Antonio Methodist Hospital. During this public health emergency. He was assigned to the EMS Division-Fire Station No. 5. Fire officials said Segura was a key member of the COVID-19 response team. He was highly respected, dedicated, and served the community proudly. ....

City of Laredo temporarily shutting down two bars found to be violating COVID rules

The City of Laredo revealed Thursday that they had been granted temporary restraining orders to pull the certificates of operation for two local bars that had been violating the state’s COVID-19 rules.
Blue Moon Country Bar & Patio and Social Bar & Grill, both on Laredo’s north side, will be forced to close temporarily.
Because Laredo’s COVID-19 hospitalization rate has been above 15% for some time, local businesses cannot exceed 50% occupancy, per the state’s orders. And in order for bars to operate, more than half of their sales need to be from food. Furthermore patrons must wear masks when they leave their table, no one is allowed to sit or order at the bar and tables must be six feet apart. ....
