KU cancels third and final commencement, reschedules for next weekend


The University of Kansas cancelled the final commencement ceremony of the day, scheduled for 6:30 p.m, because of severe weather, according to an alert from KU’s emergency notification system. 
Earlier in the day, KU canceled the two previous ceremonies, scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. due to severe weather.
“We are sad to report that, due to the continued threat of severe weather in the area, our third and final Commencement ceremony, scheduled for 6:30 p.m., has been canceled,” the alert said. “We know this is a disappointment to graduates and guests, many of whom traveled from out of town to celebrate Commencement on the Hill.” ....

A year later, 2020 graduates return for Carroll College commencement


From far and wide, the class of 2020 returned to Carroll College on Saturday for the graduation ceremony they missed the year prior.
Approximately 141 of the 315 graduates of the class of 2020 made their way back to Carroll College to once again meet with their fellow graduates and celebrate their accomplishments. The ceremony was originally scheduled for May 2020, but it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the Carroll administration wanted to ensure that all graduates had the opportunity to participate in a traditional ceremony, opting to hold ceremonies for 2020 and 2021 graduates on the same day. 
Following the walkout, Carroll president John Cech said Carroll College s 2020 commencement ceremonies are now convened. I think that deserves a round of applause. The crowd was in agreement, cheering for the moment that had been a long time coming for last year s graduating class. ....

BATON ROUGE – Louisiana State University is honoring graduates of the Class of 2020 who were affected by the pandemic.
The university issued a Thursday, May 13 news release that said members of the Class of 2020 that would like to participate in an in-person ceremony will be welcomed back to campus to attend in-person graduation ceremonies Friday, May 14. The Class of 2020 will be recognized in a ceremony at 8:30 a.m. and a ceremony at 11 a.m., both taking place in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. ....

Class of 2020 MBAs graduated into a world upended by coronavirus. Now, as the health crisis reaches new levels of catastrophe around the world, having a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics degree could literally be what saves them from an uncertain fate.
That’s the case a group of MBAs from Emory University are now making: That after the Goizueta Business School established a STEM major in late 2020, its refusal to grant retroactive STEM designation to those who had just graduated in the midst of an unprecedented disruption to the economy means many will be forced to relocate this summer losing their jobs, perhaps, and possibly returning to areas of the world overwhelmed by the ongoing pandemic. ....

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Texas A&M Corpus Christi will hold in-person graduation in May for the class of 2021. However, not only will 2021 graduates be given the opportunity to walk, there will be a specific ceremony for 2020 graduates to walk who weren’t given the opportunity due to the pandemic.
