North Yorkshire libraries are hosting a free online event with Yorkshire-based author Clara Barley about her novel The Moss House. The novel details the life of Anne Lister, commonly known as Gentleman Jack. It explores Anne’s relationship with fellow landowner Ann Walker, and examines how Anne battled both society and her family to try to live her life as she wanted in the early 19th century. It will be held at 7pm on Wednesday, May 19, and will feature author Clara Barley discussing the story, as well as reading excerpts from her book. Anna Woodford CROSSING the Tees, Teesside’s biggest literary festival returns between Wednesday, June 9 and Saturday, June 20. The event, now in its seventh year, has been programmed entirely by Tees Valley library services, with support from local councils and Arts Council England, and features a huge range of interactive literary events from author-hosted discussions to writing workshops. Due to the uncertainty over ongoing Covid-restrictions, this year’s festival will take place entirely online, meaning that attendees can enjoy the wide variety of workshops and talks from the comfort of their own homes.
