hello, everyone. it is my pleasure and my privilege to be up here at this podium at the internet education foundation s 14th annual state of the net conference. my name is emery rone, a fellow at the internet law frame work for early career professionals, started by our parent organization and i m hereto interview right, i m in the other room next to c-span we ll be pulling down panelists throughout the day and talking about what is the most important issues facing the state of the net. i hope to speak with as many of you as possible that sit on all the panels. as you know, we have fascinating topics and incredible speakers and the state of the net has never been more important than it is right now. with that in mind, i d like to bring to the stage the astandpoint secretary, and david rhettle. [inaudible conversations] [inaudible conversations] [inaudible conversations] good morning to this roundtable of the secretary of affairs will come to order. i want to welcome our participations we will call them, witnesses, where we have the honorable elaine duke, claire brady, george scott and john kelly from dhs, as well as the office of inspector general. this roundtable is to discuss the attempt to reauthorize dhs, the house is past their bill and they had a memorandum of understanding to consolidate that entire process under the department or committee of homeland security in the house and its been a little more messier here in the senate which is not unusual in the commerce committee was taken up in past authorization of tsa and coast guard and we have a number of components and my staff keeps telling me the summer of 40 or percent and that is what we are here to talk about today. i think it s accurate to say that with the house authorization does is and this is what
called to order. pursuant to notice on june 30, 2017 the committee needs to consider the nominations of clarion grady to be undersecretary of management at the department of homeland security and hammy carter to be special counsel office. just a brief opening remark, i think as the hearing indicated a couple weeks ago, to highly qualified candidates, simply couldn t be more impressed with the people selected to fill those incredibly important positions. in terms of the folks we are going to be voting on, we will talk about the nominees but i am pleased that we are voting on two qualified candidates and i certainly intend to support their nominations and with that i will yield my ranking member, senator mccaskill. i will say for the record a brief opening statement that i had for this markup. i m pleased to support both of these nominees. if there is no further debate, i ask unanimous consent that we consider supporting the nominations on block. the question is on recordin
