Once again, anti-gunners failed to get their way and, once again, they’re predicting that the refusal to add still more infringements to the Second Amendment will somehow cost lives.
OK, let me back up a bit.
As noted previously, Republican Vermont Gov. Phil Scott vetoed a bill that sought to impose a 24-hour wait on anyone looking to buy a gun. He felt he’d done enough damage to the Second Amendment, and felt it was time to devote resources and efforts into the underlying causes of both violence and suicide.

Accidental shootings plague Jacksonville; woman killed by neighbor

A 47-year-old Jacksonville woman who was shot and killed Sunday by apparent accidental gunfire from nearby will be buried Monday, according to family friends.
The shooting comes on the heels of multiple other accidental discharges of firearms that have left children and adults dead or critically injured. Jacksonville has seen at least 15 victims of accidental shootings since the beginning of 2020 and three in four days this month, according to Times-Union records.
Jennifer Edelen s funeral will be at noon at Crystal Springs Baptist Church at 1320 S. Chaffee Road, followed by burial at Jacksonville Memory Gardens on Blanding Boulevard in Orange Park. ....

Washington, DC – As 2020 marked the deadliest year for gun violence in the last 20 years, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) and Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) today reintroduced the
Gun Violence Prevention Research Act to fund research at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on firearms safety and gun violence prevention. The legislation would authorize $50 million in funding each fiscal year for the next five years at the CDC to study gun violence. According to the Gun Violence Archive, at least 43,495 people lost their lives due to gun violence in 2020 as firearms sales have surged during the coronavirus pandemic. ....
