The National Advisory issued following the severe earthquakes near the Kermadec Islands this morning has officially been cancelled. In an update at 3:43pm, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said that based on the advice from GNS Science and ocean observations, the tsunami threat to New Zealand has passed. Strong and unusual currents and unpredictable surges will continue for a maximum of 24 hours, NEMA said. People should remain vigilant and take extra precautions in regards to beach and ocean activities.
