Humane Society of Monroe County continues to provide animal care By Tom Adamich I recently wrote about the good works of the Civic Improvement Society – the women’s organization that was active in Monroe from 1901 to 1914. One of their efforts was to plant the early seeds of what would become a humane society serving Monroe County’s needs to help animals and provide animal control services to Monroe County citizens. However, it wasn’t until 1954 and through the efforts of Florence Foshag and others that the Monroe County Humane Society (now known as the Humane Society of Monroe County) was incorporated.
