City officials praise ODNR officer; more discussion on possible cemetery levy By John Hamilton - [email protected] WILMINGTON An officer’s legacy and the city’s cemetery were the primary topics at Thursday’s Wilmington City Council meeting. Officer Lagore During his report, Mayor John Stanforth and other city officials paid tribute to Jason Lagore, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources officer who died in the line of duty. Lagore, 36, of Clarksville, suffered an apparent medical emergency while recently attempting to rescue a 16-year-old girl who fell through the ice at Rocky Fork Lake in Highland County. “He left behind a young widow and two small children,” said Stanforth. “It’s just one of those real tragedies.” ....
City: Levy may be needed for maintenance of Sugar Grove Cemetery WILMINGTON A possible levy could be on the November ballot for Sugar Grove Cemetery. During a City Services Committee meeting on Thursday, the group come up with a recommendation for Wilmington City Council at the next meeting. “The cemetery fund is running a deficit of about $150,000 a year. The first question we’re going to have to address is whether or not we want to continue to fund that deficit out of the general fund. Or ask the citizens of Wilmington for a levy,” said Committee Chairperson Nick Eveland. ....
