For decades, flights from europe to east asia have traversed russia. it s the shortest route between hundreds of city pairs. as a result, some airlines are routing flights north of russia. for example, finnair is sending some flights to japan, directly over the north pole. others are routing them south of ukraine although this can add thousands of miles and extra hours in the air. links between asia and north america are also affected, with cathay pacific saying its hong kong to new york flight could be routed over the middle east and europe rather than directly over russia and arctic canada, turning it into the world s longest flight. longerflight times plus higherfuel prices spell sharply increased costs for airlines, and while they can t pass that on to the passenger immediately, because of strong competition, within a few months, ....

I like going on to google flights. i look looking at city pairs and putting in a date range. will show you city to city what a fare is and you can go out wider. you can pick places because there s so many places you haven t been. let s say you haven t been to austin, chicago, phoenix, you can look at those areas and say that s a great deal. if the air fare is down, you can probably bet that the hotels and resorts are down a bit. it s always better to go a little off-season versus everyone traveling at the same time. if you have kids, it s a challenge. shoulder season, september, october, november, fantastic time to travel and get great bargains. mark murphy, thanks. love your insight. always learn something. so from the skies to the shopping in those july fourth barbecues costing you serious green. doesn t lydia know it? she s joining us from a farm in ....

interCaribbean Airways working to restore pre COVID-19 network of 343 city pairs


interCaribbean Airways CEO Trevor Sadler, speaking at
CAPA Live May 2021, stated (13-May-2021) the airline had 343 city pairs prior to the outbreak of COVID-19. Mr Sadler said: We don t have every city pair we formerly operated back connected yet, but as we move through this year, we certainly will restore those services .

Let s talk about this, mark. the airlines seem to be saying, all right, you get on the plane, you have a seat on the plane. we re not going to take you from that seat, but, but, in the case of united, they didn t go so far as to say we re going to stop this overbooking policy, because, you know, people cancel and we don t want to be on the shortened of the financial stick. what did you make of this? that s good business, and here is why. the numbers are huge for the airlines. the airlines know city pairs, they know dates, they no times, and they know what the shelf rate will be. if they overbook by three, four, five seats, on average, they ll nail it. that translates into $1,000 per flight extra times the number of flights in a day, 24,000, that s $24 million per day in revenue to the airline. so why would an airline give up that revenue, when the numbers, as you see them in terms of these involuntary bumpings, are ....
