A small crowd sat before State Representative Al Williams and business owner Clay Sikes as the two discussed the pros and cons of a proposed casino in Midway.
The impromptu meeting happened Feb. 20 at Dorchester Academy where Williams assured the group that right now all of this was based on a big - if.
“This (casino) cannot be done unless the voters of Georgia vote at least three times,” he said. “First the state has to vote, then places that might be interested might have to vote and they have to have a referendum in local areas. This is so early in the process, it’s unbelievable.” ....

City of Midway to start door-to-door vaccination for seniors

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â The City of Midway has a new strategy to get more seniors in Gadsden county vaccinated.
Limited staffing and no sites to distribute the vaccinations are some of the reasons why city leaders in Midway had to re-think their plan to get seniors vaccinated.
The city is partnering with the Gadsden County Health Department to register seniors for the COVID-19 vaccine.
So far, the county has seen more than 600 COVID-19 cases in people 65 and up.
City Manager Linda Dilworth said many seniors in Midway don t have transportation to the vaccination sites in Quincy, so they came up with a door-to-door option. ....

Midway Seen as Perfect Location for Casino in Georgia

Georgia considers Midway to be the perfect home to a future new casino if the legalization of gambling becomes a fact in the state.
The idea is only at a discussion phase at the moment but it could benefit greatly the small Liberty County town. If the casino plan is approved by voters, it could impact all of Coastal Georgia.
The CEO of Liberty County Development Authority, Ronald Tolley, said:
“We’re hoping this year it may be successful because we know it would be a tremendous benefit to the county.”
The future Midway casino will be given the green light for establishment if the bill for legalization of casino gambling in Georgia survives all legislative hurdles. ....
