设想未来的中国农村，村庄应该成为宜居之所，县城经济将代替过去的乡镇经济，发挥公共设施、信息、人才等方面的集聚效应，同时，进县城买房与留在村庄居住达到平衡。而且，交通网络越来越便利，各种交通工具也伴随着农村居民的收入增加而普及或兴起，进城工作、生活都更便捷，农村地区的自来水等公共服务设施也在加强。
“城市化2.0”之所以重要，主要有两个方面的理由：一是城市化在“十四五”规划中的分量很重。以“城市化”代替“城镇化”的提法，也释放出重要的政策信号。二是第七次全国人口普查数据的公布社会反响很大，也可以从中看到，全国人口布局在过去10年里发生了很大变化。这些变化意味着什么？城市化是一个重要的理解角度，可以帮助我们看清变化的内涵。
