MORE DEATHS AMONG UNVAXXED. The city government of Baguio said most of the Covid-19 deaths from August 2021 to January 2022 involved individuals who were not vaccinated. (File photo) BAGUIO CITY - The city's top health official on Thursday said senior citizens and health workers remain as the priority sectors in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) testing efforts. City Health Services Office chief Dr. Rowena Galpo, in a phone interview, said this is in compliance with the Department of Health's (DOH) directive prioritizing health workers, the elderly, and persons with comorbidities in the testing, as the country sees a surge in Covid-19 cases caused by the Omicron variant. "Priority testing for health care workers is being done for surveillance purposes to plan for adequate health system capacity," she said. Meanwhile, she said senior citizens and persons with comorbidities are among vulnerable sectors, thus the need for testing and to determine if they can be given drugs against Covid-19. She said antigen testing is encouraged when symptomatic and when reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing is not available. ....
(File photo) BAGUIO CITY - The city government has brought antigen test kits for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in village halls and district health centers covering 128 barangays for residents who want to undergo testing at the comfort of their homes. In a phone interview Tuesday, Aileen Refuerzo, city information officer, said the "antigen self-test program is implemented in Atab, Loakan, Irisan, Asin, City Camp, and Pacdal health districts starting January 24." These health centers cover big villages, with most of them being far from the central business district where hospitals and the city's central triage that provides the testing service are located. The distribution of test kits came after a pilot simulation was conducted in three district health centers last January 12 to 14.
