The city of Durango drafted a new whistleblower policy in response to a $700,000 fraud cause that went on for about 11 years.

In April, Durango voters will weigh in on a lodgers tax increase. Approval of the increase would raise the tax from 2% to 5.25% on people staying in motels, hotels and vacation rentals. The new revenue would be divided among tourism, transit and arts spending.
