BOSTON A Worcester Massachusetts House district currently represented by Democrat Daniel Donahue shifted from mostly white to majority-minority, a demographic change that could have implications when lawmakers draw new district boundaries later this year, according to a new analysis by Lawyers for Civil Rights.
The analysis, conducted by Boston University professor Maxwell Palmer, shows that the populations of at least four other state House districts and one Senate district have also shifted to majority-minority.
The change could allow more diverse groups of voters to bring minority candidates to the Legislature, according to MassVOTE, a voting rights organization working to increase participation in historically underrepresented communities. ....

Neeb says land near zoo could become events and educational center
The city’s possible purchase of a multi-family residential property near the Spring River Zoo is heading to the Roswell City Council following a 3-1 committee vote.
The Legal Committee decided Thursday to forward the decision about the $415,000 purchase agreement to the entire City Council for its consideration at a Feb. 11 meeting. The committee meeting discussion included some concerns about the condition of structures and the opposition of City Councilor George Peterson.
“Roswell is short on money, with COVID and all that mess,” said Peterson. “I don’t think now is the time for it. A couple of years ago, one of the the No. 1 thing the citizens of Roswell wanted was the roads fixed. I think we should use this money, if we have the money, to use it on the roads instead of purchasing property.” ....

HALLOWELL After seven years in Hallowell’s top elected position, Mayor Mark Walker reflected on many “happy moments” during his tenure.
Walker, a lawyer, was elected in 2013, before being officially inaugurated in early 2014. Before his election, Walker had served on the City Council since 2006. During that time, Walker said that Hallowell has seen “a lot of change and a lot of development.” ....
