Oshawa’s Fireworks Bylaw is being amended to provide greater clarity concerning the sale and discharge of fireworks when a prohibition is in place.
According to a city report, the need for these changes became apparent last year when a Fireworks Discharge prohibition was declared and fireworks sale permits in temporary sale units, such as portable stands and trailers, were not being issued to prevent large gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Oshawa Fire Chief Derrick Clark says people continued to sell fireworks last year despite the prohibition order.

Cordova Valley Park and Fenelon-Venus Park are getting makeovers and the city is looking for the community’s input.
Ward 4 Regional and City Councillor Rick Kerr, chair of the community services committee, says this is “terrific news” for residents of all ages in these areas.
“In these pandemic times, enhanced outdoor activity opportunities are so important to the increased well-being of our fellow citizens,” he says.
Located at 811 Glen St., south of Bloor Street between Park and Ritson Roads, Cordova Valley Park will be the home of Oshawa’s newest off-leash dog area and will also feature a new playground, enhanced amenities and an improved soccer layout.
