top of the hour, i m erica hill. good to have you with us this morning. election day, two weeks away exactly. today there is a major focus on pennsylvania. voters gearing up for a key senate debate tonight. republican mehmet oz and john fetterman will face off in the first and only debate. this is a new poll showing fetterman leading with a narrow margin. we re on the ground in harrisburg with a preview of tonight s debate. plus overnight in florida, governor ron desantis vying to keep his job facing off against challenger charlie crist in their debate, the two trading barbs, insults, on a number of topics. charlie crist will join me in just a moment. but let s begin with what is expected to be the fiery debate tonight in pennsylvania. jessica dean is on the trail in harrisburg. and it is important, this is the only debate for voters between oz and fetterman. what are we expecting them to tackle tonight in addition to the expected fireworks? right. well we re going to see
captured on some citizen videos and posted on twitter. the lawsuit that has a status conference today in federal court here in the state of arizona, the plaintiffs have filed, and this is a group of retirees as well as a latino organization, saying that they believe that this is a campaign of vigilante voter intimidation. the lawsuit is against an organization here in arizona, the clean elections usa as well as its founder saying that this is being coordinated, that this is being organized and they believe this is a violation of civil rights for anyone who wants to try to return their ballots. as far as whether anything is illegal in this, on its face, the maricopa county sheriff said there isn t anything illegal. that there is the right to carry, the second amendment is here in arizona as it is in the rest of the country. there is open carry in the state of arizona. and as long as they don t
stop resisting! let go of the taser! the camera footage here from the officer stops midway through struggle. the chief doesn t know if it was intentionally turned off or off or happened accidentally. next video was shot by a bystander as we remember from george floyd and other incidents, sometimes it s the independent citizen videos that put a lot more pressure on these issues. here there is multiple cameras and multiple angles. so you are going to see the same struggle that you just saw through the police camera but from this other angle.
video at a bank which could be flipped off by any visitor or bank robber? that would kind of defeat the point. when videos do incriminate the police, what happens? even when they exist, the departments often hide them. in one study, the majority of incidents caught on body cameras were never released by police. some of these reforms won t work very well if they still depend on the original issue in american policing. not every country does it this way, on the premise that police should police themselves. that brings me to a third and final point. some reforms do have an impact when they assert truly independent authority over police, reforms to control the police if someone other than police has control of what happens. that s why citizen videos have an impact. the video of george floyd s murder went viral swiftly, so fast that police were still stupidly falsely claiming that floyd died in a medical incident, a cover story shredded
away from officers when he was confronted. court documents obtained by the baltimore sun indicate that gray was arrested without force or incident for having a switch blade and then suffered a medical emergency during transport. the mayor is saying there will be a full and independent investigation. the four officers aeld ss allegedly involved are on administrative leave. joining us now u gene o donnell good day to you. we re of course awaiting further details that we expect to come in this press conference from the police department undergoing the investigation here. what do you make of this scenario that comes at a time when these kind of citizen videos have increasingly shown a light on very suspect police practices in some instances? we have to remind ourselves that the police work with force and can t be held actcountable
