Westminster farmer Jody Jess postage stamp idea approved by United States Postal Service


WESTMINSTER A local farmer has received the ultimate “stamp” of approval.
Jody Jess, whose family has owned the Buck Hill Homestead Farm for generations, recently had her idea for a postage stamp approved by the United States Postal Service. The Heritage Breeds Commemorative Forever Stamp will go on sale at post offices across the country on May 17. On that date, Jess will attend the “First Day of Issue” dedication ceremony in Mount Vernon, Virginia.
Jess, who raises rare heritage breeds, including dairy cows, pigs and chickens, on her farm, said she was visiting her local post office in 2015 when she noticed a poster advertising a new stamp available for sale. She asked an employee how the post office came up with designs for new stamps, and she was told that any citizen is invited to submit ideas to the United States Postal Service Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee. ....

WASHINGTON, Jan. 22, 2021 /PRNewswire/  The U.S. Postal Service announced the appointment of three members to the Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee (CSAC).
Created in 1957, the CSAC selects subjects for recommendation as future stamp issues, made with all postal customers in mind, including stamp collectors. Committee members, appointed by the Postmaster General, provide expertise on history, science and technology, art, education, sports and other subjects of public interest.
