West Bengal elections: 3 Sitalkuchi dead shot in chest, says postmortem report | India News

KOLKATA: Three of the four people killed in CISF firing at Sitalkuchi in north Bengal’s Cooch Behar during polling on April 10 took bullets in the chest while the fourth suffered a head injury inflicted with a blunt object, according to preliminary post-mortem reports.
Sources quoted the autopsy report of Hamidul Haq, a 28-year-old mason accused of trying to snatch firearms from CISF personnel, as saying that he was shot from a distance of around 10 metres. No senior official would comment on the findings.
A special investigation team of the state CID is probing the case and the Calcutta HC has listed the matter for hearing on May 5. Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said a “fair probe” would “lay bare the conspiracy behind this genocide”. CM Mamata Banerjee said in her election rallies on Monday that “bullets needs to be avenged with ballots”. ....

KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress and BJP both moved the Election Commission on Saturday, seeking an investigation into the leaked audio tape of a purported conversation between Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and her party’s Sitalkuchi candidate Partha Pratim Ray after the CISF firing in which four people died.
While Trinamool sought action for “violation of the right to privacy” under various sections of the Indian Telegraph Act, IT Act and the IPC, BJP demanded a probe into “how and by whom the tape was made viral to solicit votes on religious lines, which is prohibited under the model code of conduct.” In its written complaint to the EC, a Trinamool delegation led by Yashwant Sinha, Derek O’Brien and Purnendu Basu said the purported phone conversation between Mamata and Ray was played by BJP during a presser at its office in the presence of BJP’s IT cell in-charge Amit Malviya and MP Locket Chatterjee. ....
