Veteran politicians swept back into office in Lowndes County, with Sheriff Eddie Hawkins, Coroner Greg Merchant, Chancery Clerk Cindy Goode and District 5 Supervisor Leroy Brooks all winning reelection, according to unofficial results.
In his reelection bid for sheriff, Republican incumbent Eddie Hawkins has outspent his opponent by a rate of more than 5-to-1 and still has $15,160 on hand through the Nov. 7 election.
The sheriff’s race continues to be the big-money race in Lowndes County, with incumbent Republican Eddie Hawkins raising $13,298 over the reporting period, compared to $3,500 raised by his opponent, Democrat Willie Jones.
