Well, this morning, the federal government is shut down for the first time in 17 years. The republicanled house and democrats in the senate were unable to agree on a deal to keep the government funded. No one gave ground as the contentious battle over president obamas Health Care Law continued to the bitter end. An estimated 800,000 federal workers will be furloughed. Among them nearly 3,000 faa safety inspectors. Most routine food inspections by the fda will be suspended and the National Park system will close its doors. Susan mcginnis is in washington.
