alleged plot to assassinate former president george w. bush. the suspect was even planning on driving to bush s home in dallas. welcome to the lead. i m jake tapper. we start with our politics lead. it is election day in america. voters now headed to the polls in five states. georgia, alabama, texas, arkansas, and minnesota. a number of the contests today will test donald trump s grip on the republican party, and there is no race that matters more to the former president than georgia s gubernatorial primary. it s a race that pits his choice, former senator david perdue, against the incumbent governor, david kemp. trump went all in on perdue. he begged him to run. his organization poured $1.5 million into his super pac. he wants to take brian kemp, the incumbent governor, down, because kemp refused to overturn the 2020 election. but as we have seen oftentimes, it is hard to beat an incumbent, especially one who is independently popular with his base, especially one that ha
church. the video first responders on the scene quickly thereafter trying to help the victims. but the sheriff saying that the dispatch received a call inside of the presbyterian church and say four victims were critically wounded and one had minor injurys. all victims were adults and enroute to the hospital. one victim is deceased at the scene. that s according to the orange county sheriff. one person in custody and recovered a weapon. emergency personnel responded to laguna woods, california, shortly after this shooting doing anything they can to help everyone at the church. at the moment authorities are asking everyone to stay away from the church if you are in that area. we are waiting to hear from them in about an hour so but meantime this is an active scene and the site of a new investigation in this country. i want to read a statement from the governor of california gafb newsom who said we are actively monitoring the church and working closely with law enforcement. no
i think, too, if you look at this weekend overall there s been four mass shootings at a church, at a supermarket, outside of the on the streets of milwaukee outside of the nba playoff game. when you pit it in perspective it s so pervasive that really no one you could do anything and in your day-to-day life and subjected to this. no one is protected from being a victim in a shooting. that s absolutely correct. you re in a church, a synagogue. you re at an event and anything can happen. watching a movie. this is look. we need to acknowledge the leadership in the united states needs to acknowledge this is a crisis.
