Organised jointly by the Aurat March, the Haqooq-i-Khalq Movement and the Progressive Students Collective, the protest was held to press the state to assume its responsibility to protect its people, especially women and gender minorities who are constantly facing violence in one form or the other and often end up being murdered. White Star LAHORE: Life returned to normal in Punjab after the police and the paramilitary forces early on Thursday uprooted another mega protest camp of the recently proscribed Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) at Shangi Chowk of Ferozepur Road, the stronghold of the organisation. The operation was professionally handled and the security forces not only had both sides of the road of the city cleared amid brief resistance but also arrested hundreds of activists of the TLP. It was the second last major protest venue for the TLP in Punjab. More than 500 hardened and violent activists of the organisation had staged a sit-in at the intersection. ....
ISLAMABAD, KARACHI: The Pakistan government on Wednesday said it had sent a proposal to the federal Cabinet to impose a ban on the Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) religious party for killing two policemen, attacking law enforcement forces and disrupting public life through nationwide protests. Demonstrations erupted in major Pakistani cities and quickly turned violent after Saad Rizvi, the head of the TLP, was arrested on Monday. Addressing a press conference, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said that protesters had killed two policemen and injured another 340 during violent attacks on law enforcement forces. “We have decided to slap a ban on the TLP,” he said. “A file (for the purpose) is being dispatched to the federal Cabinet for formal approval.” ....
