Larry Hammond, superintendent of Gallatin County Schools, confirmed the board s vote but declined further comment. Board members Rebecca Burgett, Hargis Davis, Amanda Dunavent and Chuck Toler passed the motion; board member Sonya Giles was absent Tuesday evening.
None of the board members responded to The Enquirer s request for comment.
The district, which has 1,725 students, is located in a county that is 95% white, according to the most U.S. Census Bureau estimates.
