Western names Christy Bressette to head up Indigenous initatives

Western University has appointed its first vice-provost and associate vice-president of Indigenous initiatives.
Christy Bressette, a national co-ordinator for Indigenous education with the Council of Ministers of Education Canada, begins her five-year term March 1, the university announced Monday.

Bressette, whose Anishinabek name means hard-working woman, was one of the first Indigenous females to earn a PhD in educational studies from Western.
“The creation of this important senior leadership role is timely as Canadians endeavour to act upon the findings of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission where respect for all is central, and our actions are informed by their impact on future generations yet to come,” Bressette said in a release. ....
