The Bridge Art Gallery announced it will host its 6th Annual Expressive Creative Soul Art Exhibition. Each year this exhibition celebrates the diversity that exists within the African American culture by highlighting talented African American artists in a group show that features exceptional art.
This year’s event has been curated by award-winning visual artist, Bryant Small. Small has assembled an incredible roster of participating artists that includes: Kortez (@esotericurbanism on Instagram), Kilolo Kumayika (@kiloloarts), Xplore Freedom (@xplorefreedom) and Christopher Mack (@iammack).
Jacksonville University all-clear after email threat prompts campus evacuation
Update: Students received an all-clear text at 5:45 p.m. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office K-9 units have thoroughly searched the Jacksonville University campus and verified it is safe for you to return, a statement said.
Jacksonville University ordered anyone on campus to immediately evacuate citing a threat that was made Friday afternoon. About two hours later, the campus was deemed all-clear according to a text alert. We received a threat of violence on campus via email today, spokeswoman Laura Phelps said. We issued an immediate alert for mandatory evacuation.
Phelps said personnel didn t believe there was an immediate threat, but asked people to stay away from campus while police investigated.
Urban Voices Projectâs Skid Row Choir Releases First Single âA Holiday Called Homeâ

When Mostly Kosher frontman Leeav Sofer co-founded the Urban Voices Project (UVP) Choir along with Christopher Mack, an outreach worker in skid row dubbed âthe Urban Sage,â he had no idea six years later the choir would have its first single out for the community to enjoy for the holidays.
Released on Dec. 20, âA Holiday Called Homeâ is the choirâs first single. The professionally recorded song and music video feature the voices of 26 UVP Choir members living on Skid Row. The song was written by the Skid Row musicians with music developed by Sofer and his Jewish klezmer-rock band.
of l.a. s downtown. it is the nation s homeless epicenter. when you see it for the first time it s a shock it the system. a dystopian nightmare. but one you really need to see to understand the crisis of homele homelessness. the smell of trash, urine, human excrement is overwhelming. do you get used to this? do i get used it to it? where else are they going to go. reporter: christopher mack walks these streets every day. since 2003 he has been a community outreach worker helping the homeless work with government assistance. we walked with him through skid row s 50 square blocks of tarps and tents. people laying on the ground should not be acceptable. it s hard not to get depressed about this, and i have only been here for a day. i know.
