Cranston police captain wants his day in court on defamation suit

Cranston police captain wants his day in court on defamation suit PROVIDENCE A Cranston police captain wants a jury to hear his allegations that he was defamed by a TV news report implicating him as a key player in the now-infamous Ticketgate scandal. In 2014, Capt. Russell Henry sued WJAR-TV investigative reporter Jim Taricani; WJAR s news director at the time, Christopher Lanni; and Media General Operating Inc., then the owner of the station, after a news story aired naming him as one of the people who ordered a ticketing blitz following a City Council finance committee’s rejection of the police contract. Henry also named colleagues he believed to be the source of information to Taricani, then-Patrolman Peter Leclerc, Capt. Karen Guilbeault, now retired, and police retiree Ronald Jacob.
