DBS stake in Shenzhen rural bank signals rising confidence in new round of opening-up
Foreign financial institutions, or FFIs, are planning to increase investment in China s commercial banks or exploring new business opportunities in the country, as China has strengthened efforts to further open up its financial sector, industry experts said.
Singapore s DBS Group announced recently its subsidiary DBS Bank has received Singaporean and Chinese regulatory approvals to acquire a 13 percent stake in Shenzhen Rural Commercial Bank with 5.29 billion yuan ($815 million).
DBS Bank, a multinational banking and financial services corporation, will use funds owned by the bank to buy 1.35 billion new shares of Shenzhen Rural Commercial Bank, abbreviated as SZRCB, at a price of 3.91 yuan per s ....

Turning the corner

ITHACA, NY Things have been changing rapidly over the past few months as more and more people are being vaccinated in Tompkins County and throughout the state and country. As it stands currently, about 36% of people in the county are fully vaccinated, and nearly 60% of people have received their first dose. With eligibility open to everyone 16+, itâs not unreasonable to think the county could hit the 75-80% vaccination number needed to reach herd immunity sometime this summer.
So what does that mean for residents? Well, with ever-evolving science and changing guidelines, itâs hard to say exactly. Local businesses are starting to relax some of their capacity requirements, restaurants are looking forward to welcoming more people both inside and out, and there will be some live entertainment available this summer, something that was nearly impossible to find a year ago. ....

In this round-up, Beijing and Washington pledge to fight climate change together, Citi plans to set up onshore securities and futures companies as it ends consumer banking operations in 13 markets including China, and the banking and insurance regulator reassures the market that Huarong Asset Management Co’s operations are stable.
China and the US have issued a joint statement on climate change, after a meeting in Shanghai between US special presidential envoy for climate, John Kerry, and China’s special envoy for climate change, Xie Zhenhua, last Thursday.
The climate crisis must be addressed “with the seriousness and urgency that it demands” and the two countries are committed to working together as well as with other countries and parties, said the statement published by the US Department of State.
