Christine Danderand knows firsthand just how challenging coronavirus can be. This past October, the Nebraska-based makeup artist, her husband, and their daughter all contracted COVID-19.
Thankfully, the family is recovering and no one was hospitalized, but Danderand also gained keen personal insight about the demands on frontline pandemic workers from a source that’s close to home: Her mother is a registered nurse who deals with COVID patients on a day-to-day basis.
As long hours and unrelenting pressure began taking their heavy emotional toll on her mom, Danderand knew she had to do something to help.

People are ‘Adopting’ Health Care Heroes on the Frontlines
Heroes. There have been so many this past year. From first responders to essential workers we’ve seen heroes rise to the occasion throughout 2020. So how do you say thank you?
One woman set out to create a very special Facebook group to try to show the nurses of our country just how much they are appreciated and loved.
Christine Danderand, make up artist from Omaha, Nebraska, wanted to find a way to show those special medical professionals just how much of what they do on a day-to-day basis means. She created a Facebook group last month called Adopt A Nurse/ Healthcare Worker, and since then it’s grown by the thousands.
“Adopt a Nurse” Campaign Gives Back to Frontline Workers
It’s been a difficult year for nurses and frontline healthcare workers, but 2020 is still considered the Year of the Nurse and Midwife. As we wind down a truly unbelievable year, some people are spending the holidays honoring the brave women and men who have been tirelessly fighting the coronavirus.
That’s exactly what Christine Danderand had in mind when she started the “Adopt a Nurse/Healthcare Worker” campaign earlier this year. Participants can send their love and gratitude to nurses and providers all over the country on Facebook in the form of gifts, essential medical supplies, and other must-have equipment.
